SWASTHIK "gunga_ma"
Indian born and raised, Swasthik's tribal tattoos are rooted in her culture of traditional South Indian kolangal work as well as integrating North Indian motifs that have sacred connection to land, the gods, planets and one's ancestors. Her colour tattoos, take the application of American traditional style but are imagery based on her culture's spirituality as well as folk stories manifesting gods and esoteric concepts. Swasthik's deep connection to Mother Nature is also represented in her colour work as she depicts imagery embodying plants, planets and the Divine. Swasthik uses electric tattooing.
"Inspired by the land, my elders, spiritual practice and the masterful artistic talent of my family as well as a grandmother who did kolam tattoos, I continue to strive to keep my culture's tradition and folk stories alive, through my artistic expression and craft of tattooing. I acknowledge and respect the First Nation to elders who paved the way within tattooing, to inform my deep practice creating connection, transformation and strength through an energy exchange.
